Luscious Dumplings, the beloved Los Angeles-based restaurant recognized by Michelin, is preparing to open its first San Diego location in Chula Vista’s Village Walk at Eastlake Shopping Center. Seeing so many great spots and finally realizing that Chula Vista is a great place to be is fantastic.

What started as a humble family business in San Gabriel Valley has blossomed into a dumpling dynasty. Founded in 2001 by Alan Lam and Grace Li, Luscious Dumplings carries forward the authentic flavors of Northern Chinese cuisine. The name itself tells a story—derived from the Chinese “Run Feng Yuan” (Moist Abundant Garden), they chose “Luscious” to perfectly capture the essence of their mouthwatering creations.

The heart of Luscious Dumplings beats strongest in its family ties. When Michelle Wu and her husband Ker Zhu left their careers in nursing and fashion to join the family business, they brought fresh energy while preserving time-honored traditions. Every morning at 6 AM, Ker and his team personally select fresh produce and oversee the meat grinding process, ensuring only the highest quality ingredients make it into their dumplings.

What Makes Luscious So Special?

Don’t let the simple decor fool you – the magic happens in the kitchen. Every dumpling is crafted fresh daily, with dedicated staff mixing fillings, kneading dough, and hand-folding hundreds of perfect pouches of flavor. The menu features everything from classic potstickers to steamy xiao long bao (soup dumplings), plus adorable custard-filled treats shaped like animal faces. Bayshore Bike Path Closing on Monday
If you’re a fan of scenic bike rides or leisurely strolls along the Bayshore Bike Path, there’s an important update you should know about. Starting January 6, a portion of this multi-use path will temporarily close to ensure public safety during the construction of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. The closure affects the area from Lagoon Drive to H Street, with clear signage posted to guide pedestrians and cyclists to alternate routes.

What Is the Bayshore Bike Path?

The Bayshore Bike Path (Bayshore Bike Path) is a beautiful, multi-use trail connecting key areas along the Chula Vista Bayfront. It’s a recreational hub that links Bayside Park, the marinas, and other attractions to the northern area of the bayfront. Notable stops include Sweetwater Marsh, the Living Coast Discovery Center, and the Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay RV Resort. I love to walk the path in the mornings and will be sad to see it close, but I can’t wait to see the path when it is reopened. I also can’t wait to see the new Sweetwater Park, which is also supposed to be opening soon.
This path isn’t just for recreation; it’s part of a broader initiative funded by an Urban Greening Grant from the California Natural Resources Agency. As the first phase of a planned continuous bike and pedestrian path connecting the northern and southern ends of the bayfront, Bayshore Bike Path promotes outdoor activities while preserving the natural environment.

The CVEC is projected to generate significant economic benefits for the San Diego region. Economic analysis suggests the complex could create an estimated $544 million in economic activity over the next decade through direct employment, production spending, and auxiliary services. Just like the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center will have an economic impact to the west side, the Chula Vista Entertainment Complex will also offer a huge impact to the east side. Chula Vista is seeing so many future thinking projects happening right here in our community.

The service is equally stellar. The team goes above and beyond to make every visit special. A shoutout to Barbara, the general manager, for her incredible hospitality—you’ll feel like a regular from the moment you walk in.

Chula Vista’s community knows good food, and Acqua E Farina is here to add even more flavor. During the grand opening, Mayor John McCann welcomed the restaurant with open arms, and the buzz hasn’t stopped since.

Even more exciting, Alberto Morreale has plans to expand the outdoor patio into a BBQ restaurant in the coming months. Stay tuned for what’s next!
