Chula Vista ArtFest is looking for artists and vendors for the event

Calling all artists, vendors, and art enthusiasts! The much-anticipated Chula Vista ArtFest is back for its second year and will be bigger and better than ever. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at the City Hall Complex. This free-to-attend community event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible talent and diversity of local artists in Chula Vista and the South Bay area.

I remember attending the event last year and being shocked at the number of vendor booths, live music, and other activities. It was a great event that the community needed to know about. The live music alone was amazing.

Celebrate Local Chula Vista Art and Talent

The Chula Vista ArtFest showcases the vibrant art scene within our community. Last year’s event was a huge success, drawing crowds from all over the region to enjoy a day filled with creativity, music, and delicious food. This year, we’re planning an even more exciting lineup featuring an arts and crafts market, an art showcase, live music, interactive art installations, live painting sessions, food trucks, and much more.

The Chula Vista ArtFest in 2023 was one of my favorite events of the year. They had so many cool local vendors selling some beautiful work.

Artists and Vendors Wanted!

Are you an artist looking to showcase your work or sell your creations? We seek artists and vendors to participate in this year’s ArtFest. Here’s how you can get involved:

As a Vendor:

Sell your artwork and crafts at our vibrant arts and crafts market. Vendor booths are available for just $50 each. Space is limited, so apply soon to secure your spot!

As an Exhibitor:

Display your pieces in our curated art showcase. This is a fantastic opportunity for painters, sketch artists, cartoonists, photographers, ceramicists, muralists, and other creators of 2D and 3D art. The best part? Artists selected for the art showcase are not charged.

Day at the Park event coming to the Chula Vista Bayfront on Saturday June 29th

I don’t know about you, but my summer event calendar is filling up this year. With so many fun events happening, here is another one to add to the list. The Port of San Diego hosts its A Day at the Park: A Port Experiences Series on Saturday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event, which wraps up a fantastic three-part series hosted by the Port of San Diego at some of our underused parks along the beautiful San Diego Bay waterfront, is a testament to our community’s vibrant spirit and engagement.

The series started with a bang on May 18 at Pepper Park in National City, followed by another fun-filled day at Cesar Chavez Park in Barrio Logan on June 1. It’s Chula Vista’s turn to shine, and I can’t wait to see it. Here are all the details we have so far.

What to Expect at the Day at the Park event

‘A Day at the Park’ is not just an event; it’s a day of pure fun and enjoyment! With performances from local artists, delicious food from local vendors, and plenty of kid-friendly activities, it’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday with family and friends, enjoying the best our community has to offer. If you remember the Chula Vista Earth Day event, then it will be like that, but a little bigger.

Bayfront Park is located at 980 Marina Way, Chula Vista, CA 91910 – exit at J Street. For your convenience, a free accessible shuttle service will be available for attendees at the Chula Vista Library-Civic Center Branch, located at 365 F Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910. The shuttle will run from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Carpooling is encouraged, and free on-site parking is available.

The Port of San Diego hosting community events

Day at the Park event hosted by the Port of San DiegoThis series of events is part of the Port of San Diego’s Tidelands Activation Program under the Expanded Access Events category. This program, which is a testament to our community’s togetherness, aims to make our Port parks more accessible and vibrant through fun, Port-funded community events. Each year, the Tidelands Activation Program sponsors a variety of events that bring the community together and showcase the beauty of San Diego Bay.

Congregational Place in Chula Vista

There is a brand new project coming to the downtown area, Congregational Place in Chula Vista. This development will breathe new life into a long-vacant downtown lot, creating a vibrant and secure community for older adults. Featuring a range of amenities and sustainable features, Congregational Place is set to become a cornerstone of our city’s revitalization efforts. This seven-story complex will offer 56 units specifically for low-income seniors, providing much-needed affordable housing. Although we don’t have details on the sign-up or prequalification process yet, we will share that information as soon as it becomes available. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!

Sweetwater Park is the brand new public park

Big news for Chula Vista! On Tuesday, port and city officials broke ground on the highly anticipated $19.7 million Sweetwater Park. This marks the first park space planned for the Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment, making it the port’s 23rd park along the stunning San Diego Bay. I have been going down there and getting some footage and this park is going to look really nice.

A New Gem Along the Bayfront

Located near E Street and Bay Boulevard, just north of the under-construction Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, Sweetwater Park spans a vast 21 acres. This new park promises to be a standout addition to San Diego Bay, uniquely blending nature and history.

Honoring Nature and History

“Sweetwater Park will be one of the most unique parks along San Diego Bay as it’s inspired by both nature and history,” said Rafael Castellanos, chairman of the Port of San Diego’s Board of Port Commissioners. The park’s design elements, created with community input, honor the area’s wildlife and habitat. The park will also pay tribute to the Kumeyaay People’s ancestral lands through public art and educational signage. “It will truly be a space for the community to feel proud of,” Castellanos added.

A Natural Haven for Everyone

Sweetwater Park is envisioned as a natural habitat-oriented recreational open space. It aims to showcase the unique wildlife assets of San Diego Bay and offer a serene environment for passive recreation activities. Its proximity to the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge enhances its appeal, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers.

Community-Driven Design

The park’s design reflects extensive local input, ensuring it meets the community’s needs and expectations. This collaborative effort between the port and the city highlights the importance of community involvement in creating spaces that everyone can enjoy.
