This is the one so many of you have asked us about and it is getting so close! TNT Pizza, lovingly known as Thick’n Thin, is bringing its celebrated pizzas to Downtown Chula Vista with a second location. This beloved pizzeria will serve South Bay locals with various quality pizzas, from the trendy one-inch-high Detroit pizza to the classic New York-style pizza, available by the slice or as whole pies. Additionally, patrons can savor medium-thick grandma pan pizza and ultra-thin tavern-style options. The new location will also feature an expanded menu with a wide range of toppings, appetizers, and sandwiches.

Galu Café: Healthy and Hearty Delights

Health-conscious eaters meet your new favorite spot: Galu Café. This cozy café and delicatessen offers high-quality craft brews, teas, and a delectable selection of toasts, pastries, and sandwiches. 27th Annual Lemon Festival this Saturday

We are so excited about the much-anticipated 27th Annual Lemon Festival, which is happening this Saturday. The event is always a zestful day of food, music, and fun in Downtown Chula Vista. Once hailed as the “Lemon Capital of the World,” the city will honor its citrus history on August 17th, 2024. From 11 am to 6 pm, Third Avenue will transform into a vibrant lemon haven packed with family-friendly events. Explore local arts and crafts vendors, refresh yourself at the wine and beer garden, and delight in lemon-themed treats while witnessing the excitement of the lemon cook-off competition.

Kids will have a blast at the Little Lemons kids zone in Memorial Park, and there will be ample photo opportunities with the festival’s mascot, Tarty the Lemon. With two stages of live music, attendees can dance the day away or soak in the tunes.

Organized by the Downtown Chula Vista Association, this cherished festival brings together thousands to celebrate the area’s rich agricultural heritage and lively community spirit. So, grab your lemon-themed gear and get ready to “squeeze” the day at this delightful community event!

I had a great time at the 2024 CV Art Fest

This past weekend was a fantastic time at the 2024 CV Art Fest. So many great local artists, vendors, kids activities and live music. The vibes were great; people came out to have fun. This event was one of my favorites last year, and I was thrilled that the city of Chula Vista brought it back this year. It was much bigger, with a whole area where kids could get their hands dirty and have fun making all kinds of crafts. I bumped into Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, who told me the plan is to keep this going and grow it yearly. I’m happy to hear that and can’t wait for the next one.

There are so many more events coming this month, so stay tuned. I will see you out there in Chula Vista.

The Vogue Tavern has released a change in hours due to the loss of the outdoor patios

The reality of losing the outdoor patios along Third Avenue is right around the corner. A few months ago, the City of Chula Vista announced they would move forward and require all downtown businesses, like The Vogue Tavern, with outdoor patios or “parklets,” to remove them. Initially, this was scheduled for the end of the summer, giving businesses one last season to enjoy their patios. Then, there were rumors that the deadline had changed to November. Some companies have been trying to change the city’s mind about this decision. The Vogue Tavern has been a very vocal opponent of the change, striving to keep the patios.

A few days ago, The Vogue Tavern posted a press release on Instagram stating how losing their parklet would affect their business and outlines their new hours of operation. Of all the businesses with outdoor patios, The Vogue Tavern stands to lose the most. Unlike others, they don’t have a large indoor dining area or a back deck to accommodate more patrons inside. Losing their parklet will be a significant blow to their bottom line.

The Vogue Tavern Announces New Hours

In response to the anticipated downturn in business, jobs, and public spaces due to the removal of the patios, The Vogue Tavern has announced a change in its hours of operation. The new hours, effective August 1st, are as follows:

  • Sunday: 11 AM – 10 PM
  • Monday: 2 PM – 10 PM
  • Tuesday: 2 PM – 11 PM
  • Wednesday: 2 PM – 11 PM
  • Thursday: 2 PM – 11 PM
  • Friday: 2 PM – 12 AM
  • Saturday: 11 AM – 12 AM

The previous hours were Monday through Thursday, 11 AM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM to 9 PM. The most significant change is the lunchtime hours on weekdays. They will open at 2 PM on Monday through Thursday.

Despite these challenges, The Vogue Tavern remains committed to serving its customers and supporting its staff. The team is exploring new ways to adapt and continue contributing to the vibrant community they cherish.

I love the option of eating outside and enjoying our beautiful weather. It will be sad to see them go and we will always continue to support the Tavern at the Vogue and every other business along Third Avenue. I wish the city and the Downtown Association could have worked together and found a solution. It will be sad to see them getting torn down.

The Yard House is opening up at the Otay Ranch Town center early 2025

I gotta say, the Otay Ranch Town Center is starting to lock in some really great new restaurants. After they lost a few earlier this year, they have been busy bringing in some new ones. The latest new spot coming soon is the Yard House Restaurant. It was confirmed this week, and people are excited to see it open. We have been updating you on the other new restaurant that is in the works, 385 Korean BBQ. These are both going to bring in more foot traffic to the mall, which is very much needed.

Yard House: A Craft Beer Haven and Culinary Gem

One of the most exciting newcomers to Otay Ranch Town Center is Yard House, the famous American restaurant chain known for its extensive draft beer selection and vibrant rock ‘n’ roll ambiance. With over 80 locations across the United States, Yard House is celebrated for its impressive beer list featuring up to 130 taps, offering a mix of local, regional, and imported brews. The menu is equally diverse, boasting a wide range of American cuisine with global influences, from hearty burgers and juicy steaks to fresh seafood and vegetarian options.

Yard House is planning to open in early 2025 at 2015 Birch Road, Suite 803, taking over the space that once housed Banana Republic. The new location will offer a contemporary atmosphere perfect for casual hangouts and lively gatherings. It is sure to give Novo Brazil a run for its money.

365 Korean BBQ: A New Culinary Delight

Later this year, food enthusiasts will have a new favorite spot to indulge in mouthwatering Korean BBQ. 365 Korean BBQ is set to open, offering a delightful dining experience where you can grill your own meats right at your table. Whether you’re a fan of tender bulgogi, savory pork belly, or flavorful chicken, this new restaurant promises to be a hit with its authentic flavors and interactive dining style.

Don’t forget; if you can’t wait for 365 Korean BBQ, there is a new spot that just opened up called Sura Korean BBQ right across the street from Common Theory. We posted up about them last week.

It has also been confirmed that Tesla will open a showroom at the mall. They have listed it as coming soon on their website. We are not sure where they plan on moving, but we will keep you posted when we find out.
