All the Chula Vista events for October 2024: Ready to get out there?

It’s amazing how quickly we’ve arrived in October! I’ve gathered a list of all the Chula Vista events for October 2024 happening around our community. Take a break from your routine, get outside, and explore all that Chula Vista has to offer. Many of you have asked about events; I’m here to spread the word about them. Trust me, you won’t find a better spot on the web listing everything like we do here! Be sure to follow us, and for even more great news delivered straight to your inbox, sign up for our newsletter. Chula Vista Farmers Markets

As the weather begins to cool down (eventually!), remember to support our wonderful farmers’ markets around town. First up, the Otay Ranch Town Center Farmers Market on Tuesdays at 4 PM. This foodie’s paradise looks even more magical with the early sunsets and glowing vendor lights. Next, check out the Fiesta Street Market at the Chula Vista Golf Course, which kicks off at 3 PM and goes until about 7 PM. While it’s smaller, it’s still a great spot to browse local vendors and grab a bite. Finally, the big one is the Chula Vista Farmers Market every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine! I’ll be out there supporting local vendors – maybe I’ll see you there!

Chula Vista Parks & Rec Halloween Events: Various Times & Locations

If you’ve got little ones, this is the perfect month for you! The Chula Vista Recreation Department hosts Halloween activities monthly at different community centers. The Spooky Studio Art Event at Salt Creek Community Center kicks things off on October 11th from 3 PM to 5:30 PM. There are plenty more fun events, so head over to their Instagram account for a full list. I’m eyeing the Halloween Carnival on October 25th at the Loma Verde Community Center—it sounds like a blast!

Chula Vista Fire Department Open House

Saturday, October 12th, 10 AM – 2 PM

If you missed the Chula Vista Firefighters Pancake Breakfast a couple of months ago, here’s your chance to visit the fire station and enjoy some family-friendly fun! On October 12th, the Chula Vista Fire Department will host their open house at Fire Station 5 (341 Orange Avenue). You’ll get station tours, see live demonstrations, and enjoy kid-friendly activities. It’s a great family event, so bring the little ones!

Sweetwater Woman’s Club Annual Craft Show

Thursday – Saturday, October 17th – 19th, 10 AM – 4 PM

You know the holidays are approaching when the Sweetwater Woman’s Club hosts their annual craft show! If you love shopping local, this is the place to be. From handmade crafts to baked goods, you’ll find all kinds of treasures perfect for holiday decor. The event runs for three days, starting Thursday, October 17th at 10 AM. Check out their website for all the details. My wife will likely be there all three days—please help me keep her from spending too much!

Beautify Chula Vista

Saturday, October 19th, 8:30 AM

Who doesn’t love a clean Chula Vista? Now’s your chance to help out and make our city shine! On Saturday, October 19th, volunteers will gather for the annual Beautify Chula Vista event. Join us to help clean up trash and paint over graffiti. I missed last year’s event, but I’ll be out there this time! You can choose between two spots to volunteer: Memorial Bowl & Park or the Otay Community Center. Be sure to visit the city’s website for more details and to download the waiver.

Terra Nova Plaza Halloween Spooktacular

Saturday, October 19th, 4 PM – 7 PM

Details on this event are still sparse, but Terra Nova Plaza will host its Halloween Spooktacular! There’s been a candy walk and costume contest in past years, with businesses handing out treats. If you’re nearby and looking to get into the Halloween spirit, swing by and check it out!

Power of Pink Movie Night & Event

Tuesday, October 22nd, 5 PM

Join Otay Ranch Town Center as they celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a special pink-themed screening of Barbie! There will be educational booths, a “Warrior Wall” honoring breast cancer patients, and a DJ spinning retro tunes. Since it overlaps with the farmers market, it’s a perfect opportunity to grab dinner and enjoy the movie. Check out their website for more details.

Three favorite coffee shops in Chula Vista

What’s happening, Chula Vista? Today is National Coffee Day, and I have something special to share with you all—my top three locally-owned coffee shops in Chula Vista! We’re so lucky to have so many great places to grab a cup of coffee, and while there are plenty of spots I could mention, I wanted to highlight just a few favorites. Remember, when you’re out getting your coffee fix, supporting local businesses in Chula Vista is key! Let me know in the comments what your favorite coffee spot is—I’m pretty sure I’ve been there!

Casa De Otay in the Millenia Community

If you haven’t checked out Casa De Otay yet, you’re missing out! This community gem is located in the Millennial area, and now you can also find them inside Play City. Not only do they serve amazing coffee, but they’re super active on Instagram, so give them a follow! They’ve got a new spot opening soon, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them. Casa De Otay brings the vibe and the caffeine, making it a must-visit.

If you’re a fan of unique flavors and a chill atmosphere, Dame Mas Cafaina is where you need to be. Plus, nothing beats supporting a local business with such great energy!

The Grind House on Third Avenue

If you’ve been following me for a while, you already know how much I love The Grind House. They’ve been a staple in Chula Vista for over seven years, and not only do they brew up a solid cup of coffee, but they also serve some of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. Seriously, you have to try them! The Grind House’s mix of good coffee, great food, and welcoming vibes make it a top contender for any coffee lover.

Chula Vista Starlight Parade & Festival 2024 is December 14th

It is official!! The Chula Vista Starlight Parade & Festival is Saturday, December 14th. Last year, the parade was a huge hit, and we were all waiting for the official announcement. If you’re looking for a fun and festive way to get into the holiday spirit, mark your calendars for this exciting event. I’m sure this year will be even bigger and better than last year.

A Parade with Sparkle and Shine

Grab your reindeer horns, light-up accessories, and holiday gear because the Starlight Parade is back and better than ever! Set to take place on Third Avenue between H and E Streets, the parade will turn the area into a winter wonderland of magic and joy. The Starlight Festival begins at 3:00 PM, followed by the tree lighting ceremony at 5:45 PM—featuring a 25-foot-tall tree that will light up the night with the holiday spirit.

The Starlight Parade will officially kick off at 6:00 PM. Over 100 entries, including whimsical floats, marching bands, dance groups, and even classic cars, will be displayed. This family-friendly parade has something for everyone and will bring joy to the entire community. “We love the Starlight Parade and when it was announced last year that it was back, my whole family planned to come out.” Said Veronica on Facebook after we posted about the parade. She and others had been waiting to hear the official date. Many were already anticipating it would be on December 7th since it is typically the first Saturday in December.

Here is the Chula Vista Starlight Parade & Festival Schedule so far

3pm – 6pm Entertainment, Photos with and letters to Santa
3pm – 7pm Holiday Festival
5:45pm Tree Lighting Ceremony
6pm Starlight Parade

Holiday Fun for All Ages

The celebration doesn’t stop with the parade! The festivities kick off at 3:00 PM. You can explore the Holiday Market, filled with food, holiday gifts, and more from local vendors. It’s the perfect place to find something special for your holiday shopping list. If you’re looking for a little extra fun, hop aboard the Chula Vista Express for a festive ride around the event or capture a memory with a family photo with Santa.

And speaking of Santa, he’s making a grand entrance that will delight kids and adults alike—riding in on a Chula Vista Fire Engine. It’s the kind of holiday magic that makes this event a must-attend.

There will also be plenty of local businesses along Downtown Chula Vista that will be having holiday treats and deals. Make sure you get out there and support them. Hopefully the lines are not too bad this year. Last year it was madness as many of the restaurants & shops were super busy.
