We have not covered much about the Millenia Building, but the city of Chula Vista has dropped some big news so we just had to share. This will bring a significant change with innovative projects combining education, entertainment, and community resources. While these projects may not always get as much attention as other high-profile developments in the city, they are equally impactful and hold the potential to bring transformative benefits. These projects are set to reshape the city’s landscape, offering opportunities for growth and innovation. Here are just a few of the items that have been released so far. The Millenia Building: A Hub of Opportunity

The five-story Millenia building is poised to become a cornerstone of Chula Vista’s development. Scheduled to open by the end of 2025, this multi-purpose space will serve as a nexus for education, community resources, and entertainment. I’m also glad that I have dropped that UnerviCity title that had been attached to this project for the longest time. I was never a big fan of that name. Hopefully, when this opens, they can come up with a better one. Can I also add that this building is the best-looking office building in Chula Vista? Just look at the photos the city sent over. I love its look and can’t wait to see it inside.

Education and Lifelong Learning

The bottom floor of the Millenia building will host classrooms for San Diego State University (SDSU), with a particular focus on nursing education, a field in high demand to address the growing need for healthcare professionals in the region. The city aims to provide in-demand academic programs such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a transfer pathway from Southwestern College’s nursing program, and advanced nursing degrees through this partnership. SDSU Global Campus will also operate from this space, offering lifelong learning and certificate programs. This initiative aligns with the city’s vision of expanding access to South Bay higher education.

A New Community Library

For the first time in 30 years, Chula Vista will welcome a new library. Spanning two floors, the library will provide residents with much-needed resources and spaces for learning and collaboration. This modern facility is set to become a popular community hub. Many of you have asked if they will close the branch in the Otay Ranch Town Center, and yes, they will close it and move to their new home here.

Hollywood 2.0: An Entertainment Powerhouse

The top two floors of the Millenia building will house the Chula Vista Entertainment Complex (CVEC), also known as Hollywood 2.0. With 75,000 square feet dedicated to advanced film and media production, the facility will include:

  • Movie and TV production spaces
  • Podcast studios
  • Virtual production technology

CVEC’s phased approach includes plans for additional production studios across the street from the library, potentially leading to retail, hotel, and other entertainment-themed developments. The project is projected to generate $545 million in economic impact over the next decade, along with hundreds of permanent jobs and opportunities for filmmakers of all sizes.

Whether you’re looking for gifts, entertainment, or simply a cheerful evening out, Downtown is the place to be.

Let’s cover some of our favorite things to see when visiting the historic Downtown Chula Vista area. I bet these are some of your favorites as well.

One of the wonderful parts of Downtown Chula Vista is its creative community spirit. Visit Craft on Third, where you can dive into holiday-themed workshops—from ornament-making to painting. Craft on Third’s weekly classes are a great way to unwind and create something memorable. Perfect for family outings or fun with friends, these workshops make for a joyful way to round off 2024.

Standlee’s is another creative hub for the community. This beloved shop offers unique baking tools, ingredients, and festive baking workshops, including themed cookie decorating and cake-making. It’s the perfect opportunity to enhance your baking skills while enjoying the spirit of the season. My wife and I were just in there getting some boxes for her holiday baking.

If you’re up for something extraordinary, Downtown Chula Vista has a secret for you! Behind Lime in the Coconut, you’ll find a tiki-inspired speakeasy named “X.” With its lush tropical decor and immersive atmosphere, it’s like stepping into a hidden island getaway—complete with delicious, artfully crafted cocktails. Accessible only with a secret password, this place adds a touch of mystery and fun to your night out.

Sweet Treats at Dame Mas Cafeina

Remember to stop by Dame Mas Cafeina for a sweet pick-me-up. This local gem, located within Hidden Beauty Salon, serves refreshing drinks like fruity refreshers and energizing lattes. During the holiday season, you can try their special holiday drink menu. They’re also celebrating one year along Third Avenue. How cool is that? Make sure you stop by and congratulate Ramsey on his success. He has some special things planned for the upcoming Starlight Parade.

Since we are talking about the parade, I want to share some news and reminders for all of you looking to attend the event. Remember it is going to be busy so I recommend you get there early to save a good spot along the parade route. The city of Chula Vista has extended the parade one more block, so this year, the parade starts on I Street and goes to E Street. Downtown Chula Vista is growing, with new spots adding more flavor and excitement! Galu Café is a new favorite, offering organic coffee and daily-made pastries that will make you feel at home. There’s also Tender Hooligan, an audiophile bar where you can enjoy craft cocktails while listening to curated records—a truly unique experience that’s worth checking out.
