Summer in Chula Vista offers families opportunities to connect with their community and get outside and enjoy. Whether you love dancing, cars, dogs, or local food, these Chula Vista summer events 2025 offer something for everyone. I always make it a point to attend as many of these events as possible because they truly showcase what makes our city special. There’s something meaningful about showing up and supporting the organizations and volunteers who work hard to bring these events to life, shout out to them.

My favorite event every year is the Cruise for the Cause, and I’m thrilled that it’s returning again for 2025. The combination of classic cars, community spirit, and supporting children with cancer makes it an event I never want to miss.

From salsa dancing under the stars to celebrating our city’s lemon heritage, here are the local events that deserve your time this season. Let’s get to the list.

1. Salsa Under the Stars

When: Select Tuesdays, June 3 – September 30, 4:30–7:30 PM
Where: Otay Ranch Town Center, 2015 Birch Rd

Salsa Under the Stars returns to energize Tuesday nights in Chula Vista with live music from the Manny Cepeda Orchestra. This vibrant event gets dancers of all skill levels moving on the outdoor dance floor while creating an electric atmosphere that’s contagious.

Chula Vista Summer Events 2025 — Manny Cepeda and the Orchestra always get the crowd moving to the music. This event was a big hit last year, and you won’t want to miss the last one on September 30th.

2. Dog Gone Fun at the Otay Ranch Town Center

When: Tuesday, July 15, 5–7 PM
Where: Otay Ranch Town Center, 2015 Birch Rd

Now in its ninth year, Dog Gone Fun celebrates pet lovers and their furry companions at one of San Diego County’s most dog-friendly locations. This annual gathering combines the weekly Farmers Market with special activities designed for dogs and their families.

Event features include:

Dog costume contest at 6 PM with prizes
Free health screenings by Otay Pet Vets
Professional dog training demonstrations
Doggie treat stations and photo opportunities
Adoptable pets from Chula Vista Animal Services

Here it is, Chula Vista, my favorite event every year! Xavier The X-Man’s Cruise for the Cause celebrates its 23rd year as one of Chula Vista’s most impactful community events. This spectacular car show supports the Emilio Nares Foundation, which provides free transportation for children fighting cancer.

Event highlights:

Hundreds of classic cars, motorcycles, and custom vehicles
Live entertainment on multiple stages
Local food vendors and artisan booths
Family activities and kids’ zone
Awards ceremony for top vehicles

Vehicle registration includes a special-edition t-shirt and supports a meaningful cause. This gathering demonstrates how our community can make a real difference when we come together for important causes.

Spectator tip: Bring chairs and sunscreen for a comfortable viewing experience throughout this exciting, day-long event. You’ll also want to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Cruise for the Cause Chula Vista — So many people turned out last year to see the cars, live music, and more. Make sure you come early and bring your camera.

5. Chula Vista Lemon Festival 2025

When: Saturday, August 16, 11 AM–6 PM
Where: Downtown Chula Vista, E Street to G Street

Sweet Lindo Mexican Bakery: 40 Years of Flavor in Chula Vista

If you’ve ever driven down Broadway and wondered where to find a good slice of cake or a solid lunch spot, let me point you in the right direction: Sweet Lindo Mexican Bakery at 212 Broadway, right at the corner of E Street. It’s tucked inside a little strip mall, but don’t let the modest storefront fool you. This family-run bakery has been part of the Chula Vista community for over 40 years, and after just one visit, I totally understand why.

A Taste of Tradition

Originally located at Broadway and H Street, Sweet Lindo moved to its current spot about seven years ago. However, many longtime locals have remained loyal, continuing to pick up cakes and cookies for birthdays, family gatherings, and holiday celebrations.

When I stopped by, I tried three of their most popular cakes: Carrot Cake, Tres Leches, and Strawberry Mousse Cake. Every bite was great, but that carrot cake? Easily my favorite. Moist, balanced, and not overly sweet—just the way I like it. And just when I thought I was done, they brought out fresh coconut bread straight from the oven. One bite, and I was already planning my next visit.

More Than Just Baked Goods

While the cakes and pan dulce are the stars, Sweet Lindo also serves Mexican food and specialty coffee drinks. Their $12 Torta lunch special is a solid deal that includes a generous torta, chips, and a drink. I had the Torta de Lomo, which came packed with pork, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and a tasty house-made dressing. My daughter tried the beef tamale, which had a nice amount of meat and flavor.

On the coffee side, I went with an Iced Mexican Mocha Latte while we also tried their signature Tres Leches Latte. It’s one of their bestsellers, and after one sip, it was clear why.

Why Locals Keep Coming Back to Sweet Lindo Mexican Bakery

There’s a reason this place has been around for four decades. It’s the kind of spot that feels like home. The staff is warm and friendly, the food comes out fast, and you can grab a seat if you want to enjoy your meal there. During my visit, a few customers came up to say hello and shared how much they love stopping by for cakes and pan dulce. Some of them have been coming here since the old location.

One visitor shared, “Great little bakery in Chula Vista. They offer delicious cookies, breads, baked items, tamales, and tortas. I’m from out of town and love to treat myself and the family every time I visit San Diego.”

What started as one Instagram video turned into a movement. If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind those popular Chula Vista videos showcasing small businesses, new restaurants, and community events, let us introduce you to Kurt Bunch, better known as Mr. Chula Vista.

In a recent episode of Friends of Mortgage Heroes, host Andy sat down with Kurt to explore what drives his passion for highlighting local businesses and community events.
