El Cholo’s Kid Bringing Traditional Mexican Artistry to Third Ave

El Cholo Kid in Chula Vista

Our vibrant Downtown community recently welcomed an exciting new addition – El Cholo’s Kid, a boutique owned and operated by the passionate Daisy Romero. This trailblazing female entrepreneur has brought the beauty and craftsmanship of traditional Mexican artisans to the streets of Chula Vista.

A Journey Across Borders

Reflecting on her formative years, Daisy shares, “From a young age, I was fortunate to travel extensively throughout Mexico with my parents. These experiences exposed me to the rich tapestry of artisanal traditions that have become woven into the fabric of my life’s passion.” Her love affair with handmade goods blossomed in 2014 when she established her workshops, collaborating with diverse, talented artisans.

However, as her brand transitioned to an online platform, practicality necessitated a pivot. “The beauty and versatility of handcrafted bags captured my heart,” Daisy reminisces. “Not only were they stunning works of art, but their portable nature made them perfectly suited for online sales and shipping. Focusing my efforts on these exquisite, functional pieces was a natural progression.”

El Cholo’s Kid Online Beginnings

Daisy’s venture began humbly in 2008 as an online store, El Cholo’s Kid (named affectionately after her father’s nickname). She initially focused on handmade bags, not only for their beauty but also for the ease of shipping. As the popularity of her wares grew, so did her vision of sharing Mexican cultural traditions with a broader audience.

A Brick-and-Mortar Dream Realized

Last October, Daisy’s long-held dream materialized as she opened her first physical storefront on Third Avenue. The welcoming space showcases an exquisite collection of handcrafted handbags, each a testament to the artistry and ingenuity of skilled Mexican artisans.

If you have walked downtown Chula Vista recently, then you can not miss El Cholo’s Kid storefront. It is very colorful and vibrant; I love it.

We also featured El Cholo’s Kid in our “Five Female Owned” businesses along the third avenue district. Make sure you read more about this remarkable woman.

Sustainable Artistry, Timeless Beauty

What sets El Cholo’s Kid apart is the fusion of traditional techniques with contemporary, sustainable practices. The artisans transform recycled plastics, water bottles, and even plastic bags into intricately woven works of art. Each bag is a unique treasure, reflecting Mexico’s diverse regional styles and symbols.

Forging Lasting Connections in Chula Vista

For Daisy, her business is more than just a commercial endeavor; it’s a way of life. She has nurtured deep relationships with a family of weavers, collaborating closely to bring her unique visions to life. This organic bond ensures that every piece from El Cholo’s Kid is an authentic representation of Mexican cultural heritage.
