A little taco shop swap is happening at the Otay Ranch Town Center. Taquería El Prieto has moved into the previous location of Taquería Revolución, which announced last month they were leaving the mall and focusing on their Bonita location. Currently, the signs still say Taquería Revolución, but that will be changing in a few weeks. I was there for the grand opening and had some delicious adobada tacos. Taquería El Prieto recently moved into the west side of Chula Vista with their location on H St. That location offers a drive-thru and has plenty of space to sit inside.

Hispanas En San Diego Bazar Market – Sunday, August 4th
Kick off August with a splash of color at the Hispanas En San Diego Bazar Market! This open-air bazaar at the Chula Vista Center is a feast for the senses. From 11 AM to 5 PM, you’ll find local artisans and vendors showcasing unique creations that capture the spirit of our diverse community. With entertainment for kids, toe-tapping music, and an array of crafts, it’s the perfect way to spend a Sunday. Trust me, after last year’s holiday bazaar, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us this time!
National Night Out with CVPD – Tuesday, August 6th
Mark your calendars for an evening of community bonding at the Chula Vista Police Department’s National Night Out. From 4 PM to 8 PM, this free event is your chance to meet the everyday heroes keeping our streets safe. There will be booths where you can learn more about the different departments. They will also do exhibitions during the event in front of the police station. Last year’s event was a hit, bringing together folks of all ages to chat with our local officers. And here’s a tasty tip: Tacos El Gordo will be serving up free tacos, so come early to grab a bite!
CV Art Fest – Saturday, August 10th
I was thrilled to hear the city of Chula Vista brought this event back. Last year was a great time, but not many people knew about it. This year I expect it to be even bigger. From 12 PM to 6 PM at City Hall, immerse yourself in the creative pulse of the South Bay. It celebrates Chula Vista’s artistic soul with more music, art, and local vendors than last year. I’ll be there all day, so come say hi, and let’s appreciate local talent together!
Last year, there were so many vendors with all kinds of art for sale. Make sure you come out and support these local artists.
Chula Vista Lemon Festival – Saturday, August 17th
The Lemon Festival is the one event we all love that really celebrates Chula Vista and summer: the 27th Annual Lemon Festival! From 11 AM to 6 PM, Third Avenue will be bursting with citrusy fun. As a nod to our city’s history as the “Lemon Capital of the World,” you’ll find lemon-themed treats, live music, and even a photo op with Tarty the Lemon. Who doesn’t love the Lemon Festival? As we get closer, I will post more about this, but mark this on your calendar now and ensure you come out.
The Chula Vista Lemon Festival is the community’s premier event. This year, it is August 17th.
Taste of Eastlake – Friday, August 23rd
Foodies, rejoice! The Taste of Eastlake is taking us “Around the City” this year. Held at the Chula Vista Elite Training Center, this 21+ event serves cuisine from our best local eateries. It’s not just about the food, though—your ticket supports technology and STEAM programs in our public schools. With live entertainment and auctions, it’s a night of indulgence for a great cause. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at their website here.
CVFD Pickleball Tournament 2024 – Saturday, August 24th
We’re closing out August with a bang – or should I say a serve? The Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation is hosting its first-ever Pickleball Tournament right on Third Avenue. Whether you’re a pro or just pickleball-curious, this is your chance to play in the streets and support our local businesses. Sign up on their website to participate or cheer on the players!

The Otay Ranch Town Center has seen a lot of changes recently, and now we have some bittersweet news. Taquería Revolución, a beloved local spot, announced its closure at this location effective July 29th. The announcement was made through their social media channels, where they expressed heartfelt gratitude to their guests in the Eastlake and Otay Ranch areas for their support over the years. We want to thank all of our guests, especially the Eastlake and Otay Ranch communities for their continuous support. Thank you for making Taquería Revolución your favorite spot for street tacos over the years.
After careful consideration, we’ve decided to transfer our establishment at Otay Ranch Town Center, effective July 29, 2024.
Taquería Revolución was established in 2013 with one goal: to provide the best street tacos in San Diego. Our founder, Emilio Támez, envisioned delivering delicious street-style tacos that would resonate with the authentic taste of street tacos from México. We proudly accomplished that and our loyal guests who’ve returned are a testament to it.
Rest assured, Taquería Revolución is here to stay; we are evolving our journey to keep offering you the food that you love. Our Bonita location will continue to thrive as it has up until today with more exciting new things you’ll enjoy. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces we’ve grown to see and meet new ones.

Taquería Revolución A Legacy of Flavor in Eastlake
Taquería Revolución first opened in 2013 and quickly became a favorite, known for serving some of the best Mexican street tacos in the area. It was the first of its kind in Eastlake, setting a high standard for authentic Mexican cuisine. The good news is that their Bonita location at 3001 Bonita Rd, Chula Vista, CA 91910, will remain open for fans to continue enjoying their delicious tacos and more.
Changes in the Food Scene at the Otay Ranch Town Center
Taquería Revolución closing isn’t the first change we’ve seen at the Otay Ranch Town Center recently. Earlier this year, Los Chilaquiles in the food court also shut down, leaving Tokyo Grill as the last restaurant standing in that section. However, a new Korean BBQ restaurant is set to open in the former Chula Vista Library location, though the opening date still needs to be confirmed.

A New Chapter: Taquería El Prieto Takes Over
But it’s not all departures and closures! We’re excited to welcome Taquería El Prieto, which will be taking over the space vacated by Taquería Revolución. Known for their delicious tacos, Taquería El Prieto recently opened their first restaurant-style taco shop at 689 H St., near the H Street Trolley station. I had the chance to try their food, and it was delicious. Their arrival at the Otay Ranch Town Center promises to bring a fresh new flavor to the area. You can try them for yourself when they open on July 31st.

It is back Chula Vista! The CV Art Fest is coming up fast; I can’t wait. Last year, this event was one of my favorite summer events, and when they announced it was coming back, I was excited. Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 10. The event will be held in front of Chula Vista City Hall and run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. I expect this event to be bigger and better this year.
CV Art Fest is happening Saturday, August 6th
This year, the CV Art Fest is set to light up the courtyard outside Chula Vista City Hall once again. The inaugural festival was a hit, with walls adorned with stunning paintings, tables filled with unique pottery, and even live printmaking demonstrations. It was a feast for the senses, complete with food trucks and live music that had everyone tapping their feet. Last year, this was one of my favorite Chula Vista events of the summer. So many people turned out and really made this a great time.
Danny Zavala, the deputy chair of Chula Vista’s Cultural Arts Commission and one of the festival’s founders, is thrilled about the upcoming event. “A lot of talented artists have applied,” Zavala shared. “I’m just really excited to show their work.”
Live music and art were the highlights for CV Art Fest last year. I enjoyed this fun Chula Vista event and was thrilled to hear it was returning.
Building on last year’s event to make this year even bigger
Last year, attendees enjoyed everything from live painting sessions, where artists like Isabel Garcia showcased their skills, to interactive booths where local high school students tried their hand at screen printing. The courtyard was buzzing with energy as visitors mingled with vendors and soaked in the artistic atmosphere.
CV Art Fest is more than just a fun day out; it’s part of a broader effort to energize Chula Vista’s arts scene. Historically, local artists have had limited venues to showcase their work, often looking to other parts of the county for opportunities. But that’s changing. With new projects like an art gallery on Fourth Avenue and a growing network of public art initiatives, Chula Vista is becoming a hub for creativity.
And it’s not just Chula Vista that’s seeing this cultural renaissance. Nearby National City has opened a new film photography studio, and the Imperial Beach Arts Bureau is spotlighting its vibrant mural scene. These developments are creating more spaces for artists to connect with the community and for residents to appreciate the rich tapestry of local art.
