If you’re searching for a local spot in the South Bay that delivers comfort and flavor, Dolche Café Mexifood in Chula Vista is worth visiting. Located at 1396 Broadway, this cozy café offers a welcoming atmosphere and a menu that covers everything from breakfast favorites to lunch options. The space may be small, but it’s full of charm. One standout feature is the phone booth inside, and Elana, who often greets guests at the door, brings a personal touch that makes the experience feel even more local.
Many regulars stop in for breakfast during the week, and it’s easy to see why. Dolche offers a full coffee and juice bar along with generous plates. One favorite is the red chilaquiles, but on my most recent visit, I ordered the Jefe de Jefes Breakfast. It came with an omelet, chilaquiles, refried beans, house potatoes, and fresh bread. It’s a hearty meal, perfect if you’re coming in hungry. As a bonus, they also brought out one of their specialty crepes, which was a sweet finish to the meal.
Dolche Café recently expanded with a new location in National City. It’s a little bigger but still has the same welcoming feel. Whether you’ve been here before or are planning your first visit, this local spot deserves your support. Let me know what you think if you check it out.

How cool is this! The city of Chula Vista is looking for four residents to represent the city in our sister city, Odawara, Japan, this August. I initially thought anyone could apply, so who better to represent Chula Vista than me, Mr. Chula Vista? However, I read the rules, and they specify that applicants must be students between the ages of 18 and 28. If you meet these criteria, be sure to apply! If you get selected, contact me, and I will personally give you a Chula Vista hat to wear while you’re there.

Here is another great event happening this weekend in Chula Vista. The 9th annual South Bay Earth Day celebration invites you and your family to enjoy a day packed with eco-friendly fun, live entertainment, and valuable sustainability education. The event will take place at the Chula Vista Marina, which is on the south side of the bayfront by the boat launch. Parking is limited, so visitors can ride a bike or get there early.
Last year’s event was amazing, and so many people turned out to have fun and enjoy the day. We can’t wait to see what they have for us this year. Best of all, this event is completely free and welcomes participants of all ages.

One of the big attractions of the event is the live music; last year, the Selina cover band had people dancing. This year, the event kicks off at noon with music by DJ A-One, followed by Chula Vista Mayor John McCann officially opening the celebration at 12:10 p.m. Don’t miss One Drop Redemption performing at 2:30 p.m., bringing energy and excitement to this event.
Last year, the Selina Cover Band was a big hit. Everyone danced to the music and had a good time. Be sure to bring your chair and grab a good seat for One Drop Redemption performing at 2:30 PM.
Special Feature: Fix-It Clinic
The San Diego Fixit Clinic returns from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., where volunteer coaches will help you learn how to repair your items instead of replacing them. They can assist with:
Bicycle repairs (both road and mountain bikes)
Small appliance fixes
Electronics troubleshooting
Space for the Fix-It Clinic is limited, so be sure to RSVP at http://bit.ly/EarthDayChulaVista. Based on last year’s long lines, early registration is highly recommended!
