We just got some sad news as well as some good news in the Chula Vista restaurant space. Another Broken Egg Café is officially coming to Chula Vista and will be taking over the Hurricane Grill & Wings space at 2040 Birch Road, Suite M101.
Hurricane Grill & Wings announced on Facebook that Sunday, October 4, would be its final day in Eastlake. The space will next become home to Another Broken Egg Café, marking the breakfast and brunch chain’s first San Diego County location.
I’ll be completely upfront here. I had never heard of Another Broken Egg Café before this announcement. When I first saw the name, I thought someone was talking about another Broken Yolk Café, especially since Broken Yolk already has a location in Eastlake.
Nope. Completely different restaurant.
Another Broken Egg Café started near New Orleans in 1996 and has since expanded to more than 100 locations around the country. The Chula Vista restaurant is expected to be the first of several locations planned for San Diego County.
Franchise owners Zeeshan Naqvi and his niece Mahrouz Syed are behind the local expansion after visiting several Another Broken Egg Café locations in Florida and the Carolinas and deciding to bring the concept west.
And yes, I already looked at the menu.
Some of the restaurant’s better-known dishes include Shrimp ‘N Grits, Chicken & Waffles, and a Lobster and Brie Omelet. They also have mimosas, Bloody Marys, and other brunch cocktails.
Basically, this looks like one of those places where you tell yourself you are just going out for breakfast and somehow two hours later you are still sitting there ordering one more thing.
I have mixed feelings about the change because I actually liked Hurricane Grill & Wings. Fatburger is also located inside the same restaurant space, so seeing both of them go is a little sad.
They have both been part of that Eastlake spot for a while, and I know I’m not the only one who has stopped in for wings or a burger over the years.

At the same time, I am looking forward to trying something new.
Eastlake already has plenty of breakfast options, so Another Broken Egg Café will be entering a pretty competitive brunch scene. That is not necessarily a bad thing. More competition usually means more choices for the rest of us, and I am definitely curious to see how this place compares.
Especially when somebody is putting lobster and brie inside an omelet.
I have questions, and the only responsible way to answer them is probably to order one.
We still do not have a confirmed opening date for Another Broken Egg Café, but now that we know exactly where it is going, I will be keeping an eye on the space.
As soon as I hear when the doors officially open, I’ll be sure to post it on Chula Vista Living.
