Celebrating 30 Years of Impact: The Eastlake Educational Foundation’s Commitment to Our Community

Eastlake Educational Foundation

We would like to thank our community, sponsors, donors, and partners for supporting the Eastlake Educational Foundation’s (EEF) mission this year. Your time, treasures, and talents have enabled us to impact over 10,000 students in our community positively. We cherish being your partner in advancing our schools and securing bright futures for our children. Thank you!

Welcoming New Leadership

As we embark on the 2024-2025 year, we welcome new board members and bid farewell to those who have completed their terms. A special thank you goes to all our volunteers, particularly the EEF’s volunteer Board of Directors. This year, we extend our deepest gratitude to Board President Elaine Elefante-Leano, who steps down after six years of dedicated service and welcome our new President, Therese Caballes. Additionally, we honor Ian Burgar, Gloria McKearney, Victor Ibarra, and Debbie Fisher, who are stepping down after serving the maximum term of six years.

Reflecting on 30 Years of Community Impact

Reflecting on the EEF’s 30 years of support for neighborhood K-12 public schools, I am humbled by our integral role in uplifting the community. From our early focus on advancing technology and innovation in schools, we continue to grant approximately $120,000 annually to seven neighborhood K-12 public schools, funding hardware, educational software, teacher continuing education, and innovative programs.

Expanding Our Programs

Since 2018, the Board has introduced impactful programs, including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiatives, Teacher Innovation Grants, paid High School Student Internships, Scholarships and Community Awards, the Eastlake Alumni & Friends association, and the Eastlake+ Positive Podcast. These programs benefit the entire community, and we are excited to see them grow.

Leadership Transitions at the Eastlake Educational Foundation

Over the past six years, under Elaine’s leadership, the Board achieved clear goals through two three-year strategic plans, securing the necessary budget and staff. Elaine will continue volunteering for special projects, supporting our new Board President and the upcoming strategic planning process.

Therese Caballes, who has served on the Eastlake Educational Foundation Executive Committee for three years, is ready to step into her role as President. As Vice President and Regional Manager for North Island Credit Union, Therese brings a unique perspective on supporting the education community throughout San Diego.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our mission. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the lives of our students and community. If you would like to learn more about the Eastlake Educational Foundation and how they help the community, please visit their website here.

I have lived in this great community for over 30 years. In that time I have seen so many changes both good and bad. My goal is to promote this city and all of the good that goes on here. There are so many local events, small businesses and community groups making this city even better. You can always find me at the events taking photos. This site is a passion project of mine and I want to use this platform to get the community engaged. Get out and enjoy Chula Vista and make sure to follow me on all the socials for more!
