Third Annual Chula Vista El Grito Celebration
Don’t miss the second annual Chula Vista El Grito celebration on Sunday, September 14th at Memorial Park! If you missed last year’s event, this is your opportunity to experience one of San Diego County’s most authentic Mexican Independence Day celebrations.
This family-friendly cultural festival honors the historic “Grito de Dolores” that sparked Mexico’s fight for independence in 1810. The evening features returning headliner Tapy Quintero, multiple mariachi bands, and the acclaimed Corazón de Aztlán folklorico dancers performing in traditional, colorful costumes.
Mexican Consul General Carlos Morales will return to perform the ceremonial grito at 6:45 PM, creating a powerful connection to Mexican heritage for attendees of all backgrounds. The celebration includes authentic Mexican cuisine from local food vendors, interactive cultural activities for children, and educational displays about Mexican history and traditions.
Last year’s event drew over 3,000 residents and filled Memorial Park to capacity, creating lasting community connections that strengthened neighborhood bonds throughout the year.
Important: Arrive early to secure the best viewing spots, as this year’s expanded lineup is expected to draw even larger crowds. Free admission. The event marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month and invites all community members to celebrate Mexican culture and heritage.
