Chula Vista El Grito celebration on Sunday

Chula Vista El Grito 2026

Every September, Memorial Park turns into one of the best nights Chula Vista has to offer, and I make it a point to be there every single year. This September 13th, our community comes together again for the annual El Grito celebration, honoring Mexican Independence Day with the kind of energy you have to experience in person to really understand.

The celebration runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park, located at 373 Park Way. If you’ve never been, get ready for live performances, traditional mariachi, and folklórico dancers in full costume who bring so much color and movement to the park. There’s a craft market too, along with food that will have you going back for seconds. This year, vendor booths will line Parkway Drive, so plan to browse and shop while you take in the atmosphere.

Chula Vista El Grito event 2025
Last year, so many people turned out for the Chula Vista El Grito event. That’s why I always encourage people to get there early to save their spot.

The highlight of the evening is the El Grito ceremony itself, featuring a traditional Banda de Guerra. It’s a powerful moment when the whole park comes together to honor Mexico’s history, and it never fails to give me chills to watch thousands of neighbors share in that tradition side by side.

A quick tip from someone who’s been plenty of times: get there early. This event draws thousands of people, and the park fills up fast. Arriving early means better parking, better spots to watch the performances, and more time to enjoy the vendor booths before the crowds really build.

This is one of those true family fun events that Chula Vista does so well. Bring the kids, bring your friends, and come celebrate with the rest of us. I love this event every year, and I can’t wait to see you out there for an evening full of music, culture, and community pride.
