Port of San Diego shares a new photo of the Sweetwater Park at Chula Vista Bayfront

Sweetwater Park at Chula Vista Bayfront

The Port of San Diego has been really busy down here in Chula Vista these past few months. They recently posted a new photo of Sweetwater Park at Chula Vista Bayfront on their Facebook account. They also discussed the project at last month’s Day at the Park event. The more I see this park and everything it is going to have, I can’t wait for it to be complete. I have been taking photos of the project every time I’m down there, and it is really coming along now. You can see the project take shape.

If you’re unfamiliar with this new park and the Chula Vista Bayfront projects, follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Here is a breakdown of the new park and what this project means to the community.

Located near E Street and Bay Boulevard, just north of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, Sweetwater Park promises to be a natural habitat oasis showcasing the unique wildlife assets of San Diego Bay. The park’s design was shaped by local input and features an impressive array of amenities, including:

  • Meadows and specialty gardens
  • Nature playgrounds
  • Seating and picnic areas
  • Pedestrian walkways and bike paths
  • Sand dunes and scenic overlooks
  • Kumeyaay signage and public art
  • Public restrooms and ample parking

A Vision Realized for Sweetwater Park at Chula Vista Bayfront

Port of San Diego Commissioner Ann Moore, instrumental in bringing this project to life, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “We wanted to create a vision that involved the whole community… everybody involved from the very beginning.” And that’s exactly what’s happened!

“Stroll through this park. What do you see? You see meadows, you see grasslands, you see sand dunes, picnic areas, and, of course, overlooks so you can take in the beautiful vistas of the bay,” Port of San Diego Chair Rafael Castellanos said at the groundbreaking ceremony last year. “It is going to be something incredible.”

Our very own Mr. Chula Vista did a video on the Sweetwater Park project a few months back. Make sure you follow us on YouTube to see videos like this.

A Boost for the Local Economy

The Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment is expected to create thousands of jobs and jumpstart the economy for the city’s western side. As Mayor John McCann noted, “It’s going to help elevate and upgrade the older community… we’re making that a reality.”

Sweetwater Park is set to be completed in late 2024. For more information about the Chula Vista Bayfront and this exciting project, visit the Port of San Diego website.
Let’s celebrate this amazing new addition to our community!
