South Bay Pageant winners are named for 2009

The South Bay pageant winners for 2009 have been chosen. Bonita resident Vanessa Sandoval, 20, has been named Miss South County 2009. Candice Margarini, 18, was named Miss Chula Vista 2009, Ashley Horner, 19, was named Miss Bonita 2009 and Sandra Chavez, 18, was named Miss San Ysidro 2009.
A reception was held on Thursday at Villa Capri to honor the winners. Each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The girls will represent their counties at local business functions as well as competing in all around pageants in San Diego.

Wolf Canyon Elementary School "Wii" Olympics

The "Wii Olympics" is in celebration of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Olympic Training Center here in Chula vista is loaning the country flags and Olympic torch used in San Diego. In addition, Olympic athletes will be volunteering their time to help run the event. The Marine Corps Band and Color Guard will also be participating in the opening ceremonies, and the cheerleading squad and football team from Olympian High School will be available to donate their time and service.
This event will take place on Friday, August 29th from 5-8pm. Following opening ceremonies, the students at Wolf Canyon Elementary will participate in various sports events, with one station featuring “Wii Olympics” video game challenges. The Wolf Canyon PTA will serve dinner and an host an award's ceremony at the conclusion of the competition.
Southwestern College shows off music center

The Southwestern College School of Arts and Communication has unveiled its new $5 million Center of Recording Arts and Technology, which is remodel of two existing music buildings.
The facility includes a state-of-the-art recording studio and performance spaces for students, Southwestern College officials said.
"The new recording facility will provide many new learning opportunities for students and will also support expanded curriculum in recording arts, telemedia and electronics programs, as well as provide the college with numerous revenue opportunities that did not exist before,” said Jay Henry, recording arts program director.
The remodel was funded by Proposition AA, an $89 million bond approved by voters in 2000. Recently, the bond funded construction of Higher Education Center at Otay Mesa. In addition, Proposition AA is being used to fund the construction of Higher Education Center in San Ysidro, which is scheduled to reopen in spring 2009.
Chula Vista Library To Hold Workshops On Foreclosures

Is your property at risk of foreclosure? Do you and your family know your rights as homeowners? Learn the answers to these questions and more when Attorney J. Alan Enochs hosts a free series of workshops at Chula Vista libraries to help homeowners cope with the pressure of today’s housing market.
Enochs’ first session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. August 13, at the library’s EastLake branch (1120 EastLake Parkway). A second workshop is slated for 6:30 p.m. August 21, at the South Chula Vista branch ( 389 Orange Avenue).

Go Green Event on August 17th at the Otay Ranch Town Center

Otay Ranch Town Center creates environmental awareness with a Go Green! Taking place between Frida and Kings Fish House, the FREE community event will educate the community about the latest ways to go green through numerous booths sponsored by local environmental organizations including the CV Garden Club, I Love a Clean San Diego, Sweetwater Authority and Otay Water district, Chula Vista Nature Center, The Energy Coalition, High Tech High City of CV Clean Group, Tijuana Estuary, San Diego Audubon Society, REI EcoCenter for Alternative Fuel Education and Allied Waste
In addition, children will be given a "Passport" which they can get stamped at each booth. Once they have visited the booths, they will receive a goody bag with treats and offers from stores in the mall. Otay Ranch Town Center’s Go Green! Event is sponsored by the City Of Chula Vista, I Love a Clean San Diego and SDGE (San Diego Gas & Electric). The event runs from 1pm to 4pm at the Otay Ranch Town Center.
Sixth Annual Cruise for the Cause Blood & Bone Marrow Drive Car Show

On Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Otay Ranch Town Center will host the 6th Annual Cruise for the Cause Blood & Bone Marrow Drive Car Show. Cruise for the Cause encourages people to donate blood and join the National Bone Marrow registry to help children with cancer. The event will feature FREE live concerts from various local bands.
The cruise will feature more than 250 classic cars including Lowriders, Hot Rods, Tuneres, Bikes, Customs, SUVs, Motorcycles and Trucks. Part of the proceeds will benefit the "Friends of Scott Foundation - Friends to Children with Cancer," an organization that provides support and advocacy to children and families suffering from the effects of cancer.
