Expanded hours means expanded fun at seven Chula Vista recreation centers.

The city made the announcement on Monday that it will be expanding the hours. They will also be hosting a grand re-opening and open house. The new hours will take effect on September 8th, the celebration will be held on three consecutive Saturdays in September. The public is welcomed to attend class demonstrations, arts & crafts as well as a “Dive-In Movie” and much more family fun.

“We are looking forward to offering even more free and low-cost recreation opportunities for the whole family with additional evening and weekend hours,” said City Manager Jim Sandoval. During these additional open hours, residents will have access to a variety of recreation center amenities such as playground, tot lots, game rooms, gymnasiums, fitness centers, and free WiFi.

Many families in the Chula Vista area only had access to recreation centers two days a week. City Councilman Steve Castaneda spearheaded the drive to get more money to city services. Money for the expanded hours comes from the city tightening its belt and employee salary cuts.
