Come out and celebrate new lower tolls with a party at the Otay Ranch Town Center. The event will have music, face painting and a gaming truck. You will also get the chance to drive on the SR125 for free! That’s right, driving on the South Bay Expressway will be free from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The community celebration is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Otay Ranch Town Center. The event will feature live music from J.D. & the Blues Busters, face painters, and a whole lot more.

They will offer special FasTrak promotions at the event. The first 100 users who bring in their transponders get $5 in free tolls on South Bay Expressway. Looking to get your own transponder? Well everyone who signs up for FasTrak at the event also gets $5 in free tolls. With a transponder there is no stopping to pay the toll, you just drive right on by.

Starting this Saturday after the big celebration, tolls will decrease by as much as 40 percent. Prices will range from 50 cents to $2.75 for customers with a FasTrak electronic tolling account and from $2 to $3.50 for cash and credit card users.

The new toll structure was approved by the SANDAG board of directors on May 25. SANDAG acquired the lease from a private entity to operate the toll road in December.

The lower toll rate seeks to balance toll reductions against generating enough revenue to pay for operations and maintenance, debt service, future improvements, and contingencies.

The South Bay Expressway stretches for about ten miles through east Chula Vista from state Route 905 near the Otay Mesa Port of Entry to state Route 54 near the Sweetwater Reservoir. To learn more about the toll road and the new rates, visit
