Hundreds of local residents are expected to gather tonight at Chula Vista’s Eastlake Tavern & Bowl to celebrate the accomplishments of American Idol contestant and hometown girl Jessica Sanchez. The American Idol finale and results show will see a winner of the 11th season of Idol crowned.

All season long, 16-year-old Chula Vista native Jessica Sanchez has taken to the Idol stage with the confidence and refined talent of a much more experienced performer. On Wednesday, May 23, Sanchez and her many fans and supporters will find out if she has done enough to capture the title of “American Idol.”

Last night Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips gave their final performances. Jessica nailed another great performance with both Whitney Houston and Celine Dion songs. Phillip went with Be E. King’s “Stand by Me,” which he was kind of flat. Phillip’s was at his best when he sang a Mumford and Sons song. J.Lo was even impressed by his performance. This is going to be a close one, most sites have Phillips taking this season of American Idol, but we shall see if Jessica can pull it off.

Eastlake Tavern & Bowl in the Eastlake Design District will serve as the gathering place for the family-friendly event. “Little Tommy” from the “Jeff & Jer” radio show, a native of Chula Vista, will emcee the event scheduled to run from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. The Eastlake Middle School Choir, the group Sanchez herself sang in as a youth, will also be on hand to entertain attendees. Special t-shirts will be for sale throughout the evening. The entire community is invited to attend the final American Idol-themed viewing party to show its support for Sanchez.
