Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox will attend an American Idol “View & Vote” party to support a local teen competing in the national singing competition. The viewing party will be held at Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Company on Wednesday, April 18 starting at 7 p.m. Oggi’s is located at 2130 Birch Road in Chula Vista.
Chula Vista resident, 16 year old Jessica Sanchez, continues her quest to be a finalist on the popular television show, American Idol. Sanchez is the youngest contestant on the show and the only West Coast participant. The show is in its 11th season and has over 43 million viewers.
“Jessica is an amazingly talented young woman. Her poise, professionalism and stunning voice defies her young age. I am very proud she is not only representing Chula Vista but San Diego County and the entire West Coast,” said Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox. “The time to support her is now. I encourage everyone to put signs of support on your car or in your business, or in your living room windows, host a viewing party, but most importantly, vote forour hometown favorite Wednesday evening.”
American Idol airs on Wednesday at 8 p.m. PST on the Fox Network. Voting begins at the end of the show, 10 p.m. PST. There are several ways to vote: online at AmericanIdol.com (via Facebook), text message (AT&T only) or a toll free phone number listed during the show.
Event organizers are encouraging all who would like to attend the View & Vote Party at Oggi’s to arrive early. EastLake Middle School Choir – the school Sanchez attended as a youth – will be performing prior to the airing of the show.
Should Sanchez advance to the final three contestants, American Idol could be coming to Chula Vista for a “hometown visit.”
