This year has been especially trying for the community of Chula Vista. We have seen the city go from rapid growth in 2007, to an even much faster decline in 2008. The city has seen “For Sale” signs on new homes turn to “Bank Owned” stickers in the window within a year. Business that opened their doors to the community quickly shut them after being opened for only a few months. Residents have seen a big change in the community, but like myself I know that a change will come with the New Year. |

It seems funny to me that only a few weeks ago we were cherishing our Christmas Trees, now we are looking at them wondering how to get rid of it. I have already seen trees placed on the curb side ready for their trip to the recycle pile. Those who have a fake tree can put it back in the box or store it in the closet for next year. But to people like me, we have to recycle it the proper way. Now if you live in a house then the job is quite easy. All you have to do is place the tree on the curb during your normal recycle bin pick up and they will take it. |

Last week I was talking with some friends about the state of Chula Vista. Just like me they are also upset about the cities financial situations. We all hate the fact that the Chula Vista Nature Center is facing a possible closure. I have always thought that the nature center should be widely promoted to attract visitors from all over. But that wasn't what got me, it was after we were done discussing our views a friend of mine told us how they went out to dinner at P.F. Chang's at Fashion Valley. |

Hello, My name is Karen Quiros and I am a teacher in San Diego County. I have the privilege of teaching marine, environmental and life science to over 5,000 elementary students a year at a National Wildlife Refuge located on the San Diego Bay. My classroom is located inside the Chula Vista Nature Center, a living museum of aquariums, raptor cages and reptile enclosures. Most of the student learning takes place out on the refuge trails and as the children handle the wildlife. |

The city of Chula Vista has to make some tough cuts to close up a $4 million dollar gap in the current budget. They are already expecting a $20 million dollar gap for the next fiscal year. The cuts are city wide from staff, services, and recreation hours and even closing the Chula Vista Nature Center located at Chula Vista bay. The community has already voiced their anger of the projected cuts as well as the closing of the Nature Center at city council meetings. |
