After what seemed like months of construction Mr. Pampas opened last week with little fan fare. Located on the corner of F Street and Broadway, in what used to be Big Daddy's Restaurant, this brand new eatery brings their Brazil style of cooking to Chula Vista. Last week I finally got the chance to try it for myself with a few friends. The reviews I've read so far on the internet have been positive but one main objection was the price. Many reviewers thought the price was a bit too high but the food was top notch. Once you step inside, you can see why the construction took so long. They have completely renovated the interior of the restaurant. If you sat in a booth when it was Big Daddy's or had a piece of pie when it was Coco's Restaurant (yeah remember that) then, you will be amazed at how much the interior has changed. What used to be the front door facing Broadway is now an open air patio. The front door is now on the opposite side which, threw me off for a minute. The main door opens into a well lit bar with a small seating area. The dining room surrounds the well stocked buffet in the middle of the restaurant. The seating is tight; we had a party of four adults and the table was somewhat small. The table we were seated at had another table of four directly behind it so, getting up for the buffet was kind of tricky. One word of advice, make sure you sit close to the kitchen - you'll see why a little later. |

Chula Vista residents should have already received a letter in the mail this week from the US Census Bureau announcing the arrival of the actual Census Form next week. Residents should be pleasantly surprised when the form arrives -- the 2010 census form is one of the shortest in history. The questionnaire asks only 10 questions this year, and census officials estimate that it can be completed in just 10 minutes. |

As a herald of the spring, the Sweetwater Union High School District Symphonic Orchestra brings beautiful music to the Ruth Chapman Performing Arts Center in its Annual Benefit Concert on March 16 at 7:00pm. Students from schools across the district put in hours of practice alone and as a group in preparation for the Orchestra’s many performances each year including the Benefit Concert. Though this is the 13th Benefit Concert, the Symphonic Orchestra, which was originally organized by Harlan Skinner and Floyd Grant, was started in 1952. Today it continues under the direction of Jim Doyle. In addition to the Symphonic Orchestra, the proceeds of the concert benefit the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center. |

When he arrived on the American theater scene, Edward Albee (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf) made certain his voice was heard loudly, clearly and often. Albee has won countless awards for his plays, including his first of three Pulitzer Prizes for A Delicate Balance. Agnes and Tobias are your typical dysfunctional married couple living in the suburbs. With four bedrooms and a well-stocked liquor cabinet, their home provides a refuge and a measure of comfort to friends and family. When their adult daughter comes home after her fourth failed marriage and two friends move in unexpectedly, many well-masked feelings and opinions are finally vented. Over the course of two evenings and numerous cocktails, the sense of balance in their family life begins to topple. |
